Last Wednesday Taupo August meeting starting point for Spring Racing. They have trials before races start for top class gallopers so they can get ready for Hastings Triple Crown.
Its also a meeting where lots of young horses are making debuts and and nice 3yo Fillies race. It started off very well and then after Race 4 the meeting was called off due to a horse slipping about 700 metres to around a bend.
Yes Safety for horses and riders is paramount and with Health and Safety issues the meeting was called off. I was surprised that this would occur in August on a soft track. Is there an issue with grass being cut too short too or horses racing plates are made different than years gone by. New Zealand racing do have a number of meetings called off maybe an all weather track is an answer. The programs have put on hold but Hastings are holding the 3yo Fillies Race which is a good thing
